Recently it came to my attention that there are quite a number of drivers who believe their clutch foot should start engaging the clutch before they’ve completed the shift into a gear. WRONG.
I haven’t a clue as to where people came up with that idea but it is not the correct way to shift a manual transmission and you better damn well understand that your clutch has to be fully disengaged when you cross over the neutral gate and that you don’t start engaging the clutch until the transmission is fully into gear.
Think about gun slinging for a moment… You don’t pull the trigger until you have your gun out of the holster and the barrel aimed at the target or you’re going to miss and end up shooting at the dirt.
